Le Volvo International , également connu sous le nom de Pilot Pen International , était un tournoi de tennis professionnel joué sur des courts en terre battue de 1973 à 1984 et sur des courts extérieurs en dur de 1985 à 1998. Il a d’abord eu lieu au Mount Washington Resort à Bretton Woods, New Hampshire aux États-Unis en 1973 après que Rod Laver y ait organisé un camp d’été réussi. [1] L’International faisait à l’origine partie du circuit de tennis du Grand Prix jusqu’à la formation de l’ ATP Tour en 1990, lorsqu’il est devenu une partie de la Championship Seriesjusqu’à sa dissolution.

L’événement s’est déplacé vers plusieurs endroits américains au cours de sa course, y compris Mount Cranmore à North Conway, New Hampshire , de 1975 à 1984, [2] Stratton Mountain Resort à Stratton Mountain, Vermont , de 1985 à 1989, et finalement à New Haven, Connecticut [3] de 1990 à 1998, avant son arrêt.

En 2005, l’ événement ATP de Long Island (connu sous le nom de TD Waterhouse Cup ) a été déplacé à New Haven, où il a fusionné avec le Pilot Pen Tennis du WTA Tour . L’événement actuel ATP Pilot Pen est considéré comme une continuation de l’événement de Long Island plutôt que de l’International. [4]
