Ceci est une liste des îles d’Irlande . L’ Irlande est elle-même une île située à l’ouest de l’île de Grande-Bretagne et au nord-ouest de l’Europe continentale . Les îles sont répertoriées dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre autour de la côte, en partant du nord-est.

Les Hébrides au large de l’ Ecosse et Anglesey au large du Pays de Galles ont été regroupées avec l’Irlande (« Hibernia ») par le géographe gréco – romain Ptolémée , ^[1] mais ce n’est plus courant.

Population totale des îles irlandaises au large

Le nombre de personnes vivant sur les îles irlandaises a considérablement diminué pendant la famine irlandaise et la période qui l’a suivie. Depuis lors, la tendance sur la plupart des îles a été une diminution de la population jusqu’aux années 1950 et 1960, au cours desquelles de nombreuses îles ont été évacuées de force par le gouvernement irlandais, car le mauvais temps continu a empêché les insulaires de se rendre sur le continent pendant plusieurs mois consécutifs. Parmi les îles restantes qui n’ont pas été évacuées, bon nombre de leurs populations ont continué de diminuer depuis, certaines voyant une stabilisation ou même une légère augmentation de la population pendant et après le tigre celtique .
