Les classements WTA sont les notes définies par la Women’s Tennis Association , introduites en novembre 1975. [1]

Méthode de classement

Le classement WTA est basé sur un système cumulatif de 52 semaines. Le classement d’une joueuse est déterminé par ses résultats à un maximum de 16 tournois en simple et 11 en double et les points sont attribués en fonction de la progression d’une joueuse dans un tournoi. La base de calcul du classement d’un joueur sont les tournois qui rapportent les points les plus élevés au cours de la période de 52 semaines consécutives, à condition qu’ils incluent les points des 4 tournois du Grand Chelem, des 4 tournois Premier Mandatory et des finales WTA. De plus, pour les joueurs du Top 20, leurs deux meilleurs résultats aux tournois Premier 5 compteront également. [2] Jusqu’en 2016, la WTA distribuait également des points de classement, uniquement pour les joueurs en simple, qui ont participé aux Jeux olympiques d’été . Cependant, cela a depuis été interrompu.[3] L’ordinateur qui calcule le classement est surnommé “Medusa”. [4]

Afin d’apparaître dans le classement WTA, les joueurs doivent gagner des points de classement dans au moins trois tournois, ou un minimum de 10 points de classement en simple ou 10 points de classement en double dans un ou plusieurs tournois.

La répartition des points pour les tournois en 2021 est indiquée ci-dessous. Les points gagnés en 2013 étaient un peu différents dans certains cas et conservaient leur valeur jusqu’à leur expiration après 52 semaines.

S = joueurs en simple, D = équipes en double, Q = joueurs de qualification.
* Suppose un record de match Round Robin invaincu.
“+H” indique que l’hospitalité est fournie.

Notez que si un joueur ou une équipe reçoit un ou plusieurs byes et perd ensuite son premier match du tournoi, il ne recevra que des points pour le premier tour de ce tournoi. Par exemple, si une joueuse reçoit un bye en R64 puis perd son match en R32, elle ne recevra que des points pour R64 bien qu’elle ait avancé (via bye) à R32. De même, si un joueur ou une équipe se retire de son premier match après avoir reçu un laissez-passer, il ne recevra aucun point pour ce tournoi. [5]

Dans les tournois ITF, le tableau principal est normalement de 32 pour le simple et de 16 pour le double. Les perdants du premier tour de doubles recevront des points égaux à ceux indiqués dans la colonne R32 ci-dessus. Pour les tours suivants (à partir des quarts de finale), les points sont les mêmes que pour les simples.
