Il n’y a pas de suivi officiel des chiffres du box-office national en Inde, et les sites indiens publiant des données sont fréquemment contraints d’augmenter leurs estimations du box-office national. Les films indiens sont projetés sur les marchés du monde entier depuis le début du XXe siècle. [2] Depuis 2003, il existe des marchés dans plus de 90 pays où des films indiens sont projetés. [3] Au cours de la première décennie du 21e siècle, il y a eu une augmentation constante du prix du billet, un triplement du nombre de salles et une augmentation du nombre de copies d’un film en sortie, ce qui a entraîné une forte augmentation de les collections du box-office.
